The factory was established in 1873 on a plot of land called "Arabia" some seven kilometers north of downtown Helsinki. The factory adopted Arabia as its own name, and later the entire district came to be known by this name. Located close to Arabia were places such as India Street, Korea Street, and the Fields of Canaan. Back in those days, the area was zoned for summer houses and villas, and the plots and streets were given such exotic, romanticized names because it seemed - for this was a time when travel was far slower than now - that the place was very distant from the center of Helsinki.
